Timber window & door repair and restoration

Repairing and restoring timber windows and doors across Leicester and Leicestershire.

A better-performing window doesn't always mean a new window

Timber windows and doors can often be repaired and brought back into good condition without replacing the original joinery. I specialise in restoring existing timberwork, using as much of the original material as possible and replacing only the sections that are beyond repair.

Repair rather than replace

When timber windows and doors start to deteriorate, replacement isn't always the best option.

Rotten sections, damaged sills, failing paint, draughts and water ingress can often be dealt with through targeted repairs. I assess the existing joinery and work out what can be retained, repaired or replaced, with the aim of extending its useful life while preserving its original character.

From repair to finished window

The work varies depending on the condition of the timber. Repairs might involve removing rotten sections and splicing in new timber, rebuilding damaged sills or frames, filling smaller areas of damage, and preparing the joinery for a new protective finish.

Where necessary, I can also address gaps, seals and fitting issues to help reduce draughts and prevent further water ingress.

Restoring older homes

A lot of the windows and doors I work on are part of older properties where the original timberwork is an important part of the character of the building.

Rather than replacing it simply because it has deteriorated, I aim to find a practical way of keeping as much of it as possible. The result is a window or door that retains its original character while being brought back into useful condition.
